Pedvac Needs Seeds for its Garden

Bountiful Garden

Pedvac is excited to be getting ready to plant its second food bank garden.  This year we are expanding the garden to be a community garden including twelve boxes to be used by individuals and installing paths, a blackberry patch, bird houses, small individual vegie gardens (squash, strawberries, etc.), a three bin compost bin, etc.

We hope to create a space that everyone will enjoy visiting – a place where everyone is invited to enjoy nature in a safe and comforting environment – where you can meet your neighbours and newcomers to the area.

You can help by volunteering your time at the garden, by renting (for a nominal fee) a garden box and by donating a package of seeds for the garden.  We are looking for carrots, lettuce, kale, cucumbers, squash, green and yellow beans, peas, nasturtiums, beets, and peas.  Starter plants for tomatoes and other vegies would also be greatly accepted.

Come out and have some fun!

The Every Plate Full Food Drive – May 1-31, 2016

EPF_PLATE_logo1

Thousands of Canadians face hunger every year and food banks across the country are unable to keep up with the demand. Especially in the summer months. This year, we’re facing hunger head on. In 2016, from May 1-31, food banks across Canada will come together to participate in the Every Plate Full Food Drive with an inspiring goal: to fill the plates of every hungry Canadian this summer. Through the efforts of local food banks with the support of our national campaign, we are bringing Canada together to make a difference. www.everyplatefull to register.

NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK

Volunteer Week Picture

Volunteers are the roots of strong communities.  Just like roots are essential for trees to bloom, volunteers are essential for communities to bloom.  Thanks to volunteers, our communities grow strong and resilient.  Even the tiniest volunteer effort leaves a profound and lasting trace in a community, much like tree rings that appear over time.

PEDVAC wishes to thank all of the volunteers who have helped in so many ways!
